  • How to protect your website from AI?

Publishers need to read this !!!
The digital content ecosystem is changing fast and it is time to react otherwise traffic to websites will keep going down eventually crashing many businesses.

Problem: Publishers around the world work hard to create content but as of now ChatGPT, Google …etc can simply steal your content without any compensation/permission to creators. In the case of ChatGPT(and similar), they train the AI on publishers’ free content and then resell it as subscriptions. For Google (and similar), they move from search-engine to search-answer-engine which brings the same issues as ChatGPT, also they might intentionally make the search results look worse to keep users on their websites for monetization. As a result, many publishers experienced a noticeable drop in traffic and revenues while their content is still being used!

Possible Solution:(Publisher Content Access Policy aka PCAP)
ChatGPT, Google …etc bots can access a website’s content only with the access key(s) approved by the publisher. It will be completely up to the publisher to set the price and size of the content allowed for the bots to take also the source should always be mentioned. Compensation will be either via bidding where the requestee pays a competitive price for accessing the content or a fixed fee.

    Potential Benefits:
Motivation for creating valuable content ( super important)
-Turning your enemy (AI ) into another traffic source
-PCAP-protected website will get more credibility

    Testing:
It will be possible to test the new PCAP protection on new articles/pages only in the beginning to minimize the migration risks.
AI is great, we just need to find a way to make publishing possible with it!
Please share your thoughts/opinions! If the high-level idea is good enough for publishers and gets enough support then I will post more details and a possible tech solution.
