  • How to land a social media manager job?

Posted by Lanky-Ad3475 on November 2, 2023 at 10:38 am

I’m almost done with a bachelor in psychology and as I’m thinking about what career I’d like to approach I find that a career in social media sparks my interest. I don’t have any prior work experience in that field but I do have a tik tok account with 150k followers and 6 million likes. The only issue is that due to having privacy concerns I have stopped using this account for a year. Would this account on tik tok still help land me an entry level job?

It reflects pretty well on my skills especially my ability to story tell. What else can I do to get started? Thanks!

Try to get an entry level job anywhere in marketing and in the mean time try to grow other channels as well.

Imo tiktok is the least valuable to most companies especially if the account is not recent.

If you can demonstrate that you can grow multiple channels that would actually be valuable and your degree in psychology would be a good support of it.

Depends where you are but in Europe as far as I know just having a following is not something they would consider first. Could be an advantage but only if you have other experience.

Most people in social media are trying to get government or corporate jobs, as that’s where the benefits & work/life balance are. You should hit up your local, state and federal agencies and see if they’re hiring for social media or marketing.

ETA: when it comes to social media, engagement > followers, but if they’re hiring for government, they probably won’t know the difference
