  • How to generate leads for a local home improvement business

Hi folks, I’m in need of some tips on how to improve leads generation for a new local tiling business.

    Some notes:

    1. I’ve managed to get the website ranked in one of the top results after the usual Yell, Book a Builder and other directories on many keywords that point to the area we’re covering.

    2. The only ads I’m running are on Meta Business, most of the leads we get are from people who see our ads and posts on FB, or us spotting people looking for recommendations.

    3. I have created listings on Google My Business, Yell, local directories that link to the website and socials, and back.

What else can be done in order to attract more people interested in our services? As far as I understand SEO doesn’t help home improvement business as much as getting noticed on social media and by word of mouth. But there must be a way how to increase leads, right?

I would suggest focusing on local seo until your business ranks on the top of Google search for loc
Businesses. This would include posting on gmb and targeting location keywords. Run google
Ads and meta for a more targeted approach.

You say you got it ranked, but for what search terms? You want to be targeting “[service] in [city]” keywords. For every service you have, split it into service pages. If you target multiple locations (likely), you need to create service area pages for those cities.

For GMB, make sure you’re getting regular reviews, set your primary category to the same category that displays under your top competitors (those that are doing better than you) GMB name and make regular “Posts” about your services/offers.

Build citations (basically directory links) and make sure the NAP is consistent.

Also, run Google Ads. That’s exactly what you need to master if you want leads RIGHT now. Use exact match keywords , NOT broad match and upload a home improvement negative keyword list (Google it, there’s a bunch) and importantly. You want to create a landing page on your site for each service and have an ad group in Google Ads for that service. Again, Google “home improvement landing page designs” to see what I mean.

Once you have leads/work coming in from ads, you can use some of those profits to buy relevant backlinks from websites that have traffic (check ahrefs or semrush).

That’s what I do for all my home improvement clients and they all have daily leads from both SEO & Google Ads.
