  • How to build a social media strategy

So I’m currently the social media manager of a web3/NFT startup and I’m the only person running social media. I run a handful of Twitter accounts, a LinkedIn page and an Instagram page.

I’ve done a solid job of building out content but there’s no structure, no overall plan on why I’m creating this content.

I have an amazing opportunity to truly step up and be the social media leader of this company but I don’t know where to start.

Is there any advice to start a strategy and actually build out a plan that I can present to my boss and convince them I’m the right person to continue running social media and eventually building out my own team.

    I’m all ears. Thanks!

Good question. Try exploring growth-hacking concepts, with the aim of your post getting the attention of algorithms on your platform of choice to help it go viral. E.g. Lempod etc.

You’re asking two questions. How can you get social media growth and how do you convince leadership you can lead and grow. They are two separate things

Firstly built positive relationships with your bosses / decision makers.

Build your strategy around how it can add strategic value to the business. It shouldn’t work in isolation so ask them to give you high level objectives you can build from. If they don’t know the explore it with them and use that time to demonstrate your technical knowledge.

Social strategy is like an oreo cookie…

    1. you start with the top layer – goals and objectives… this sets the tone of why you exist and what the business objectives are
    2. the fluff in the middle – these are the tactics and tools you slice and dice together that match back to your strategic goals
    3. the bottom layer – tracking + reporting – making sure the ‘fluff’ is progressing towards your strategic goal

It sounds like you may not be experienced enough for the role in particular… but you have passion and that is a key to any persons challenges big or small. You’re job is to already know how to build a social media strategy if you’re a social media manager. There’s many different moving parts to a social media team/structure and how to address accountability.

Through my own research on the NFT/Web3.0 space. You need to have a strategy that educates new people on your concept and how your company will fit into this space. You’re a community builder first and foremost. Learn how to build communities on your platforms and report your results weekly to leadership.

Hi ?? social media agency owner here

Each business has a different social media strategy but here is a good start:

    1. Business posts
    2. Niche posts
    3. Personal posts

You can start with three posts per week in each category. Now I am going to explain what is in each category:

    1. Business – share reels that show your business’s product. For example, if I am a realtor I will show my product which is my listings/past houses. Or if I am a fitness trainer I will share a reel of training my client. The reason why we want to post business content is because we want to show the audience what they can purchase so they can message us for more detail about the product. **Pro tip: if you can post your business products in your story with a poll question asking if anyone is interested. Whoever answers yes, you dm them right away and start a conversation. 🙂

    2. Niche – A lot of people can’t find their niche. Especially in business. Niche is basically what separates you from other businesses. For example, one of My clients is a real estate agent AND a landscape/gardening professional. The niche HAS to be inside of the industry. It can’t be like you play soccer or something like that. Another example is that My channel is a fitness channel AND I am a dancer. This goes hand in hand because both have to do with getting active. ***Pro tip: Ask your business owners: what is something you can talk about for 2 hours non stop. That right there is your niche.

    3. Personal – Okay, so people like personable people. You need to become likeable in order to make a sale on social media. Many clients I work with don’t like to do personal content because they aren’t comfortable showing their face or don’t want to show that personal side of their lives. Some clients of mine love it because it is fairly easy to do. If you are working in an office, just take a picture with your teammates. Usually this content category is pictures and everything is reels and videos nowadays so it will give you a good break lol!

****Pro tip: make google drive folders of business, niche, and personal and drop in any inspiration there and duplicate that content. Or just store your content there for organization!

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions ??
