  • How to bounce back and gain followers + engagement on IG again? Is it really just down to consistency?

I’m a photographer who already had a main work page setup, but noticed when I’d post a certain thing (which I’m passionate about), I’d lose followers who followed me for my work. Kinda’ makes sense, I guess- they followed me for the one thing, not the other. So I started a second page dedicated to that one interest of mine, purely just for fun, and it ended up slowly growing organically into 15,000 followers with solid engagement, was averaging 1,200-4,000 likes/photo and like 15-30 comments/photo. Then I went through a very rough patch in life where none of that stuff even remotely mattered and I stopped posting for a year, then tried again and had some luck, and then another year off, etc. and in total list about 4,000 followers in that time. I totally get it, but was a little surprised it was THAT many people. Anyways, now things are better and I’ve officially gotten back into it, this is kind of a business for me actually, and I’m noticing that engagement/likes is nowhere nearrrr what it used to be- can’t seem to get past 60-80 likes, and just a handful of comments.

My question is: is consistency really all it’s down to? Despite these super low numbers, if I just stay at it, posting once or twice a day as I used to, using relevant hashtags, stories, I WILL start gaining back followers and engagement? Just want to make sure before I commit a significant amount of time to this again.

Thanks in advance. My goal is to get 50-100k followers and continue to build the business/brand, which already had some success previously.

First of all, stop living in any delusion. Yeah, if we compare it with 2020 or before, it was much easier to grow. However, things are different now.

Nothing to take away from you, surely, you must have put a lot of effort into your work. However, things are changed now

Everybody is on Instagram and they are sharing the same thing as you. So why you should be getting the edge?

Plus, as you were inactive before, first work on staying consistent on the platform

It’s not about posting once or twice a day, it’s about how long you can sustain the pattern

Even if it’s 3-4 posts a week, stay consistent with that pattern.

Using some relevant hashtags can be good, however, hashtags are hit-or-miss cases. You can’t rely on them

Plus, don’t think that posting twice a day n using hashtags will grow your account. As I said, it’s not 2020 now

I always say, to give people multiple reasons to connect with you. Idk what type of photographer are you, however, don’t just rely on sharing just the photos only

Add more variety to your content. It can be using the Instagram templates, or sharing some extra tips as a pro photographer, etc

Give people multiple reasons to follow n connect with you. This is the dark truth about the photography industry but most of them just share their photos only

Then some keep buying followers, some join engagement groups, and some stay stuck with the same number of followers for years

I worked with a couple of them and trust me, even pages with 1 million are facing this issue. And it all comes in a variety

What extra you can give to your audience to stand out from the rest of your competition?

If you need help with this, I would be happy to assist you

Things on IG have gone completely downhill. They don’t show posts anymore because they want you to pay to reach people.

Your story is quite relatable. I’ve had a similar experience with my own fitness account. One thing I learned is that Instagram is a two-way street. It’s not just about posting content consistently; it’s also about actively engaging with your community. Have you tried hosting live sessions or Q&As on your stories? Also, I’ve heard about Ascendviral and their strategies for Instagram growth. Might be worth checking out, don’t you think?
