How to beat a competitor running my brand name in Google Ads?

Posted by CrazyFlamez on June 1, 2024 at 1:58 pm

Hi, I just found out one guy copied my website and is runing my branded keyword in GG ads campaign to steal our traffic. Immediately, I've set up my branded kewyord campaign targeting my top country and platform to fight this guy. Hope that he will lose profit and stop the campaign in a few days.

Since I'm new to Google Ads, I'd like some advice from you guys on the best strategy to beat this competitor. Like what I should do next?

Also, I have some questions, hope you guy can answer for me.

1/ "It's cheap to bid on your brand name" Is that true? Do I need to connect my site to Google Ads to get a cheap bid?

2/ For example, my site is newworld.com, and the competitor (newworld.net) is running the keyword "newworld.com" and the title "New World Com – Official Site." Can I report him for using our brand name?

You can file a take down request with Google. It helps if you have a trademark on new world, but not necessary if they are impersonating your site or attempting to trick users.

Bidding on your own brand may be cheaper than other generic terms, but it’s not necessarily “cheap”. That’s the old days – when you used to get a $.03 CPC. Google does give you the benefit of having the brand recognition, but it will still hurt your CPC.

Nowadays an aggressive competitor can cause your brand CPC to skyrocket – I’ve seen it jump from $0.25 to $3+. Which may not sound like a ton but that’s something like a 15x increase.

I recommend you set a run manual CPC bidding and not run any automated bid strategy on your brand keyword. Monitor impression share and the auction insights report to help inform your CPC.

Anyone can bid on any brand name as a keyword. You can only prevent them from using your brand name in the ad copy if it’s trademarked.

Use the “Target impression share” bid strategy and set it to 100% and Google will try to show your ad every time your brand name is searched.

lol that’s a normal strategy, especially if the competitor is one running Facebook ads. You’ll never stop someone one for running your brands name as a keyword. It’s just normal competition

First thing. Get a trademark protection. Takes time but better you get it rather than this imposter.
One you get the trademark, you can send this imposter a cease or desist notice. If they continue to use it, they will need to pay you for it

First east thing is to run your own brand campaigns. This will cost you for clicks. But will immediately make his clicks cost more and sometimes over time can deter him from bidding on your brand. People will tell you there other things you can do. There really is not. He can bid on your keyword brand. You can only go after him for using the keyword brand in the Ads. DM me if you need more help

If they copied your website, then they can be shut down quickly by reporting them as a phishing website.

If your brand is not a trademark I doubt Google could do anything about that. Also there is a different between targeting your brand keyword and using it on the ad itself.

If your brand is a trademark you can ask Google for help, they don’t always do. Also your competitor could still target your keywords even if you have a registered trademark. Its a very basic strategy that I believe many here use.

What is your brand keyword search volume on Keyword planner?
