How should I pick Instagram tags?
Posted by seohelper on May 5, 2020 at 12:05 pmI’ve read the same advice everywhere: pick 30 tags and post them as a comment. But, how should I pick those 30 tags? I have around 10 that are really relevant to my content. Should I simply pick the most famous ones as fillers (such as #love, #family, #money)?

GuestMay 5, 2020 at 12:13 pmAs far as I know the current trend is to pick 10 Tags where the top post have around the same amount of likes like you get on the average, then 10 tags that are used a bit more often on Instagram and then 10 tags that are popular.
If you use all 30 for popular tags your post will quickly go under as a lot of people use it and your chance getting on the top tab is very low.

GuestMay 5, 2020 at 2:00 pmAre you in a niche and have you identified some top instagrammers in your niche? See which ones they use, and if they have a hashtag for themselves (usually their username). You will never get the hashtags right in one picture and will always have to update. So just keep playing around until you get some good ones to use. Start your own hashtag too.

(no affiliation but my agency pays for it because i think it’s the best one out there. there is a free version but obviously it’s not as good.)

GuestMay 5, 2020 at 9:45 pmBy tags you mean hashtags? Because a “tag” refers to tagging another user with the “@” sign – which is also a good idea to do when relevant (I’d figure out a way to make this relevant if possible).
You really just need to use common sense with a touch of creativity. Just go in the search box and start typing away. For example, you can start typing “#nonprofit” and then you see the related “nonprofitlife” “nonprofitfundraising” “nonprofitsofinstagram” etc. And go from there.
You can also look at what the leaders in your field use for ideas. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes – what hashtags do you think they look at?
Make sure you have a decent ratio of popular and niche… and above all us, put some money into your post because all of these social platforms are pay to play due to over saturation.
