  • How much should social media managers get paid???

Posted by lilithonsaturn on June 5, 2024 at 12:06 am

Hi! I’m currently a student with prior social media management experience for non profits, and tech start ups. These were all volunteer positions and remote.

This week, I got hired back to back to be a social media manager for a car shop that specializes in vintage cars, and another for a sushi restaurant. Both of my mom’s friends just knew I did social media stuff and edited videos freelance on the side so they just hired me on the spot.

I’m apparently supposed to be on site for both. How much do I charge??? I’m on my way to meet up with the sushi restaurant owner, and I’m not sure how much my hourly should be. I’m in California and minimum wage in my town/city is 16$.

    Responses appreciated 😭😭

Depends on the value they bring. I chatted with someone this week that I am pretty sure would cause more harm to any brand.

Since you have no real experience $30/hr. You can ask for more once you get real world experience. My first marketing job as 45k, left it after a year for 65k, left that after 2 for 100k, rinse and repeat upwards

Wow, congrats on the new gigs! It sounds like your skills are in high demand. Since you’re being asked to be on-site, definitely consider the time and effort involved beyond just the hourly rate. Maybe start with a higher rate and negotiate from there? Good luck with the meet-up at the sushi restaurant! 🍣🚗

Create your prices as a junior freelancer.
You have experience, you got skills, put a price on it as this would be a full time job.

Do not price this as a student.
Invoice them frequently like every week or so depending on the mission.

And put words and limits on the mission, at least on an email so everybody onclusing yourself will know what your mission will be 😉
