  • How much should I pay her?

    Hi everyone,

I have a photography business and needed a bit of help running my social media. There’s a young girl I know who said she can help me. She’s not a professional, but knows Instagram better than I do. I want to compensate her for her time though, but have no idea what to pay.

I’m looking for her to put together reels and highlights with my work. Some behind the scenes too. Nothing too crazy. 2-3 posts a month. Less than a minute in length.

I would send her the materials, she puts it together and send it back to me.

    What’s fair?

2-3 posts per month isn’t a lot, especially in photography – but could be a good way to test the waters and train her on your business. Besides creating the content, do you have any other ideas to improve your presence?

Social media is not a hard platform to use. The question I have: is she using any video editing software to edit your videos? Are these videos going to include music, graphics, and transitions with your photos?

Is she going to be using social media to market your business and try to get you clients?

2-3 posts isn’t a lot. I’d say $50.00 a week for each post is reasonable.

2-3 posts in not nearly enough to be relevant in the photography business.

If you’re paying her she’s a professional. Start with the minim wage in your area and double it per hour

I do not think this would take longer than a couple of hours. $20 an hour is probably more than adequate. But, I am curious if you are planning ahead what will be posted. Are you rotating images of the types of events you do? If I were doing the posts, I would be focusing also heavily on the hashtags, I would have hashtags for the event types and then localize hashtags for cities you serve and the industry you are in. If you are doing events, I would do hashtags for the event location “hotel name” or banquet hall. Outside of the posts, are you doing any type of analytics on Instagram. And are you connecting with other local businesses on Instagram that are complimentary to what you do? I started to follow hashtags today but I have no idea if that adds any value yet.
