  • How much detail should I give on a pillar page?

Posted by seohelper on September 16, 2021 at 2:37 pm

I am creating a content hub, and I created 5 sub pages. Right now, I’m creating the pillar page, and I wanted to ask how detailed should the topics that I covered on sub pages be on the pillar page. Should I paraphrase a bit and add a link to the sub page? I am afraid that pillar page and sub page would compete for the same keyword if I go too much into details on the pillar page.

The canonical tag would help with the concern of an article competing with another on.

When I do pillar pages, I touch on a topic briefly and then link to the sub page for the details. Knowing how much is “brief” just depends on what you think it will take your reader to want to know more information about that topic. The goal is to have the reader click through to the sub page, so whatever it takes…

Check out how Hubspot details their pillar pages (blog.hubspot.com) since they pretty much pioneered topic clusters / content hubs.

I generally hint at how the content will solve the users problem to encourage them to click through, but it really depends on what industry your business is in.
