In general, it’s best to keep the number of redirects on a website to a minimum. Three or four redirects is a good rule of thumb. However, there are some cases where more redirects may be necessary. For example, if you’re redirecting a large number of pages to a new domain, you may need to use more redirects to ensure that all of the pages are redirected properly.

Your browser protects you from this redirect loop by only allowing a certain number of redirects (usually a maximum of 10) before it gives up and displays the “too many redirects” error message. This message appears differently between Chrome, Safari, and other browsers, but the root cause is the same.

    In a chain or total?

Depends, if in a chain. Its better to not do more than one.
If it for separate pages, it further depends on many factors but good practice is to aviod too many redirects per domain. That will lead to ranking lost or traffic loast. Some time it can also register as spam

I think we need more context tbh.

If you’re migrating a website, you need to redirect everything.

If you’re deleting or moving content paths, try and keep it to a minimum.

Doesn’t matter. Ideally, all your critical links should link directly without redirects. What you want to avoid are chained redirects.

Redirects solve a problem. If you set them up correctly they will only help your website.

If you mean loops then it harms, it harms the website, it harms the users, it harms the business, and everything that can be harmed 😀
If it’s the total amount of redirects, it doesn’t (but it still depends). Whenever you think something will harm a website or not, consider if it’s something only SEO would do or if it is something a random editor or content creator would do. If it’s (1), then it will harm the website. If it’s (2), it won’t. I’m not saying editors are better at SEO than actual SEOs, but you get the point. If you want Google to like you, you should act as a good editor/content creator.

We still think as a community that we lose 15% equity per 301?
