  • How many posts a week is fair for a part time position ?

Posted by GravityTree on June 10, 2023 at 11:00 pm

I recently got a job doing social media marketing as a beginner in this field. It is a part time position and the pay rate is 18/hr for 3 days totaling 24 hrs a week. My position requires posting on both instagram and tiktok and strategizing, conceptualizing, shooting and creating all the content. Some of the shooting requires going to separate locations. What is a fair amount of posts/content per week for instagram and tiktok that would be fair to me and my employer? They basically do not have previous posts so my job is to start up and grow their pages and following. Thank you. I am just wondering if it should be like 3 tiktoks 3 IG posts and stories or 6 tiktoks 6 IG posts etc.

I don’t do social full time but when I am – generally consider 1-2 hours for a (high quality) Insta post and 2-4 for an equivalent Tik Tok as video takes a lot longer.

Disclaimer: The brands I work with – in the food and fashion categories primarily – demand fairly high end visuals with high polish.

When I was doing work for an industrial equipment hire company you could halve those time estimates as a text quote over a stock picture could be considered “good enough” in those industries.

This depends on a couple things .

    1. How easy would it be to replace this client?
    2. What level of content do you produce/can you directly tie that content to income produced for the company?
    3. What content can be reused/sliced etc. and can you automate or pay someone else to make it more worth your time?

Ultimately you need to track the value that you add to them so they can pay you for it.

If you haven’t already, get a loomly setup and possibly get access to the company CRM etc. to track your impact. If you make them more money then they pay you more money. This is about the service you provide not how many hours it is. Which means that whether you work for 24 hours or 80 that doesn’t matter. The quality of the service does.

Hello! Fellow Social Media Manager here who is also part-time. I work 25 hours a week at $25 an hour and I post 6 days a week on Instagram and around 2-3 times on TikTok per week. I also repurpose all of my content on Pinterest and Facebook as well.

I do the majority of the photo content and create all of the video content myself and most of the time I will reuse my videos for both reels and TikTok’s. I ALWAYS edit on TikTok or CapCut because editing on Instagram reels is terrible lol. I typically change the sound on my TikTok’s/reels on each platform depending on what sounds are currently trending. Repurposing video content is a great time saver! CapCut template trends on TikTok are extremely easy and fast to make as well if you ever need more quick content ideas! I post around 2-3 Reels on Instagram and 2-3 TikTok’s per week.

I also go on location to shoot content maybe 2-4 times a month. Which I then batch and plan my content calendar ahead for the month. Depending on what kind of content you’re posting I would start out with posting 4-5 times a week. However I believe in quality over quantity so just make sure your content is relevant and you’re not just posting to post. I work for a dessert brand so I post Monday-Saturday as we have locations open on the weekends. I would just ask how many times a week they want you to post and make sure it’s doable for your work ethic! Especially when it comes to editing because editing TikToks and Reels takes more time than you would think!

Depends on the quality and how much time does it take to make a post. Can you reuse the content (pictures, videos). The most important question is – how much is needed for success? If in order for you to do the job successfully and bring good results it requires more hours, discuss this with the client. But be prepared to show a detailed spreadsheet on what you spend your hours on. On avg, how much time does it take to post, how much time for editing the pictures and videos etc. Also be prepared to show what have you succeeded so far. In numbers.

It’s important to prioritize creating high-quality content that aligns with the company’s brand and engages the target audience. Focus on creating valuable and engaging posts rather than simply aiming for a specific number.
