  • How legitimate are influencer social media accounts with email addresses on their profile?

I’m wondering about reaching out directly to some influencers to help with a campaign but it is getting mixed results. I attempted to make a connection for a client a while back, there were initial conversations with emails back and forth. Then emails dropped off from their end. It was from their official website.

More recently, I have seen a couple people who might be good for some other clients but not sure how to approach it. These are officially verified accounts and I’ve checked them against platforms that don’t allow you to pay a monthly fee for verified access.

Several of them have emails right on their profiles. Which has me curious about the success rate. Given that they’re right out in the open I can imagine they get a lot of spam.

    What has been your experience?

I’ve worked with a lot of influencers at my job in a fairly big city. We have a big influencer/online presence and a lot of the time I sent them a DM before emailing them so they know to look out for my email. I always DM them from the brand account so it looks more official. Something like, “Hi ____! We love your content and would love to discuss a partnership opportunity. Just confirming that your email in your bio is the best place to reach you?”

I would say its very legitimate and the success rate is more dependent on you not them. Its based on who the brand is, the rates you’re offering, is it a product/service that actually fits them, etc. You should be more focused on making sure you come off as legitimate because they do get a lot scams of people pretending to be businesses. They understand this is the cost of doing business. When I worked for an influencer agency we’d need 500+ people for one campaign and some would respond and some wouldn’t. I encourage you to join an influencer facebook group to get more insight on how things are from their end.

Reaching out to influencers can definitely be tricky, especially when their emails are publicly available. Since they likely receive a ton of messages daily, your outreach can get lost in the shuffle, or they may just prioritize paid partnerships. Therefore, you can start working with small influencers. Larger influencers may have management teams filtering their emails, so working with micro or mid-tier influencers might yield better results as they tend to be more hands-on and engaged.
