I’m assuming they are social media managers, or whatever position they fill. How hard is it to apply for such a position and get a job. Consider me a beginner in this field

Social media management is part of my job however my official job title is global marketing manager and I don’t just do social and digital marketing but also traditional marketing like events, print adverts community management etc

I don’t like the term social media manager as it’s to specific. Ultimately it all comes under marketing and to be successful you’ll need to study all aspects of marketing not just social media.

If you focus on just being a social media manager your earning potential will reflect this instead focus on getting good at all aspects of marketing and employers will see much more value in you.

I have worked with the current social media manager for Razer. He frequents Reddit too if you are reading this: Hi Gabe!

Social Media is a job where you have to combine creativity, analytics and project management.

You can become a specialist in one of those or have a knowledge in all aspects.

Depending on the company/client you work with you will have more freedom to create and publish content. Razer obviously trust Gabe and give him all the freedom he needs. Same with Duolingo for example. Other brands are super corporate and getting a TikTok approved internally takes 7-10 business days – so too long for the idea to be relevant; trends may already have died.

Some brands have individual experts in copywriting, analytics, community management, content creation, publishing, PR, advertising/paid, influencer marketing etc.
others need a one man show that can basically do all of the above.

Becoming a social media manager is not necessarily difficult, but it does require dedication and a willingness to continuously learn. You should start by familiarizing yourself with the different social media platforms and their features. You should also develop an understanding of how to use your skills to create an effective social media strategy. Additionally, it is important to understand the analytics and reporting side of social media management, so you can effectively measure your success. With the right skills and dedication, you can become a successful social media manager.

My roommate did it right out of school. Worked for multiple brands as part of an ad agency.

It’s not glamorous. Trust me. He did some projects/posts/engagements that were out of this world and got absolutely nothing for it in the long run. The agency world is brutal.

It depends on how much knowledge and experience you have in the field of social media. If you have the necessary skills, such as a solid understanding of social media platforms and how to use them effectively, as well as experience in content production, community management, or analytics, it can be relatively straightforward. However, if you have limited experience or knowledge of the field, it might be more difficult. It can take some time to hone your skills through research and practice. Additionally, if you’re looking to become a social media manager, you should consider some type of formal education, such as a degree in digital media, marketing, or social media.
