  • How does location factor into Google ranking?

I am in a financial service business and I recently left my employer and started my own business. I created a website using webflow and it’s decent. Not as good as my old companies but better than most other competitors. However when I personally search for my service in my location I am not on the first page of Google, but someone in Chicago, IL (which is thousands of miles away) called for my services. They said when they googled for the services I provide in my location that I was top of the list…. Why does that happen and how can I make it happen for me when I search myself?

So sounds like someone with your name, when you Google it, shows up but they are in Chicago.

So – Google doesn’t really do great at locations unless the user gives context. I assume whats happening is they’re searching for “Ron Burgundy Accounting” and another guy called “Ron Burgundy” shows up but he’s in Chicago, IL?

So whats happening is Google just isn’t showing you because you’re new and it has no reason to rank you unless you demonstrate some 3rd party votes and authority. You can develop that via organizations like your local chamber, BNI, sponsorships, working on boards, developing your brand, LinkedIn.

A linkedIn profile would work. And maybe connect a link-tree (its a site, google it) and make sure your site and Google Business profile link to them. And set your address in Google Business
