  • How do you work with networks that you don’t personally enjoy?

Posted by danielrosehill on October 3, 2022 at 7:50 pm

I have a hard time endorsing the use of things professionally that I don’t “get” in my personal life. I realize that this is a flaw although I also let it guide my client selection.

    E.g.

I’m a huge fan of YouTube (notwithstanding the fact that there’s a lot of junk there). And so when clients say they want to grow on YT so long as it’s the right format for the type of content they want to produce I’m generally psyched to get working.

The problem with my approach is that it leaves me with knowledge gaps

For instance – I don’t use Instagram and Tik Tok because they’re not networks I personally enjoy. I’ve never really connected without the trend of short vertical video – specifically YouTube Shorts, IG and FB reels etc.

So to air the question that I sometimes pose to myself:

Is it reasonable to allow your personal social media preferences to dictate the type of clients you take on and the sort of work you end up engaging with them for?

Or do you go with the strategy of letting market network preferences dictate the skill set you develop irrespective of how popular specific networks are?

Where are your client’s personas? That’s what you use.

None of this is about you, it’s about them.

I mean if you don’t know how to achieve your clients potential goals, you should full stop… not be taking the client. I love my social media manager because when I ask for additional services and it’s outside their experience, they are completely honest with me. I would be livid if I invested in a new area and saw no return because someone working for me didn’t have the experience

I don’t. I have zero interest. This is why I’m not a social media marketer and why I stopped getting into advertising. If you let your interests dictate this kind of thing, you are barring yourself from effectively using the ones you don’t care for/features you don’t personally engage in (but that millions of other people do) and there are other people who will cover them all.

i have the same concern about social media. I am not a fan of social social meida, i think it is a waste of time and an addiction which is totally unhealthy. However Iisn’t a step back in the technological development, did we reach the limits of technological acceptance? Can we all stop to use social media app? And if yes, what will be the new way of communicate among each others, what will we do for entertainment? Do all social media are harmful?

I don’t like any of the modern social networks, but what can I do, I’ll continue to use them. There is no output Solcial has not yet been released in the mainnet!

I believe you should use those platforms and create the type of content you like. Let me explain:

If I create content that I don’t like just to follow a trend, that fact will somehow be communicated to consumers or users and will not generate the desired effect or response. It also doesn’t make sense to use a social platform that can’t appreciate my work.

I also believe that every product has a customer, so you have to be bolder and follow your preferences, and users will decide if your content is right for them. In the near future, I plan to use the new social network r/solcial, which allows anyone to offer their content and make money from it.

Trends are good, but standing up for your work style is better.

The obvious answer here is correct.
