  • How do you plan your social media calendar each month?

Posted by Brain_broccoli on February 3, 2023 at 12:53 pm

As a small business owner or social
media manager, how do you go about planning your monthly social media calendar? I am doing it on an adhoc basis every month and would like to streamline a method so that it doesn’t take long to plan every month. Love to hear how others do

I split mine up into 3 categories: Entertaining, Educational, and Promotional; the amount of days you do each depends on your audience. From there, I look at any highly relevant holidays and anything the business is announcing, rolling out, or events.

Other than that, I generally create content only 1-2 weeks in advance because the digital world is constantly changing and what is trending today won’t be trending in a month.

I also highly suggest making a list of any evergreen content that you can repurpose in 1-2 months.

As a social media manager, planning a monthly social media calendar is an important aspect of ensuring a consistent and effective online presence for a small business. My approach involves defining my goals, analyzing my audience, reviewing previous content performance, planning content themes, scheduling posts, and monitoring and adjusting the calendar as needed.

To start, I identify the business goals and objectives I want to achieve through social media, understand my target audience and their preferences, and look at the engagement and reach of previous posts to determine what content performs best and what topics resonate with my audience.

Based on these insights, I plan content themes for each month that include special events, promotions, holidays, etc. I then use a scheduling tool or calendar to plan and schedule my posts in advance, making sure to mix in different types of content such as text posts, photos, and videos.

Finally, I regularly review and analyze the performance of my posts to identify any patterns and make adjustments to the calendar as needed. By following these steps, I am able to streamline the process of planning my monthly social media calendar and save time while ensuring a consistent and effective online presence for the small business.

uhhhg – this is a never-ending question for me as well! And I wish I had the “do this and it’ll work” answer. But I can tell you what has worked for me –

    I suggest the following –

    1. Start with an overall goal for your social media presence – such as increasing brand awareness or boosting engagement rates

    2. Consider the types of content that will work best towards achieving this goal, and how often to post them – google can help with this.

    3. Leverage scheduling tools to stay organized and plan ahead for upcoming events or holidays. (This is the MOST important advice of all….IMO) Whether you’re using HubSpot, or the actual platform you are posting in. This IS the KEY to staying consistent! Set 3 to 5 hours aside- plan out your ENTIRE MONTH – and schedule. Then you are done. At that point all you have to do is monitor. Seems like a lot of time to set aside on a workday – but if social media presence is your goal, it’s a must. I did the math – and the amount of time I spent doing adhoc poting was TRIPPLE the number of hours.

    4. Leave a couple of days open in your monthly scheduled post for creativity and experimentation to keep your posts fresh and engaging.

    Good luck!
