How do you handle 9-5 in PPC?
Posted by Fantastic_Week7406 on September 2, 2024 at 4:31 amSo basically our company got few clients who we run google ads and they are mostly low budget and the campaigns are running fine getting conversions
so other than adding negative keywords and some little optimization which can be done in 3-4 hours nothing much to do there
so being at the work for 9-5 is meaningless there isnt much to do. is it same everywhere?

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 4:50 amAs a freelancer it is the same.
1. Conducting competitor research to analyze their headlines and to use that as a catalysis for ideas for ediiting my clients headlines
2. Adding keywords
3. Adding negative keywords
4. Looking at ways to increase ctr and lower cpc if it makes sense.I like reading your post. It sounds like the norm – freelancer or agency marketer.
How many accounts do you manage? Maybe you can take on more?

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 7:02 amyou’re in a perfect spot to increase your PPC skills (if that is what you are interested in).
Try to come up with some out-of-the-box experiments and run them on a small part of the account(s). ie: 10% of budget goes to experiments.
If you can’t come up with at least 3 interesting things to test in each account, you can probably find inspiration by exploring online resources (blogposts, /r/PPC).
Coming up with experiments, running them and interpreting the results is one of the best ways to take your PPC skills to the next level IMHO. -

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 7:46 amIt’s common to feel like there’s not much to do in PPC when campaigns are running well. Use your time to try new ideas, like testing different ad designs or changing bidding strategies. You could also learn new skills or improve your reporting to give clients better insights. Making the most of this time can help you grow and stay productive!

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 8:42 amWhy dont you ask some budget to your company to get a campaign going and draw more customers?

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 8:57 amIt’s called working on new business and getting more clients to get more buying practice in.
Think like an entrepreneur who wants to open their own PPC shop some day. Not like a government employee.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 11:14 amAgree with some others who are saying use the time to invest in other skills. You’ll get a lot further when you also start optimizing your landing pages, so maybe learn some best practices there and how to build them, learn how to build quality reports in looker or something. Build out remarketing campaigns to test – if you have enough data. Plenty of opportunities to improve your knowledge base while you have idol time

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 11:21 amWorking in a SaaS and can say that unless I am focused on google ads for the day, takes me 30 mins every other day to do routine checks. Good time to increase your skills or take more clients tho

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 12:39 pmI was in that spot with my previous agency but that’s due to my hands being tied on strategy, changes, etc. I had about 50 accounts and my job was basically to make sure that they spent and weren’t broken. Used my spare time to really deep dive into learning things and now I’m at a different company that gives us freedom on accounts. Much more fulfilling.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 12:56 pmI use to have a similar role. The ppc budgets were healthy (circa £200k per month) but it was literally two or three terms that brought in 99% of performance. I kept trying to grow the account but the ceo would always push back as we didn’t have the sales team capacity to service more leads. I would try to increase quality but there was only so much I could do.
With free time I started to learn more about other areas, SEO, tag manager and analytics. I did this for a while and ended up moving into a new job because there wasn’t much more I could do and wasn’t any progression (even tho it was pretty much stress free and great for work life balance)
