  • How do you get rid of smartphone addiction when you are a SMM?

Hey, I am a community manager at a SaaS startup. As part of my job, I have to be active and create content on major social platforms. But at the same time, I am battling smartphone addiction. It has come to a stage where it is affecting my health (dryness in my eyes)

What makes it a little complicated is that I intend to switch to a more product-centric role within my current org since I like the org and the people.

    Any suggestions for my situation?

Android has a focus mode which is super customizable (I use it to manage the attention I give to fun apps during the day, but you could also change the settings so it’s devaluing social apps during your off hours)

Digital wellbeing > focus mode is android specific but apple maybe has something similar?

Had this happen when we first started our agency. What I did was figure out how much time I realistically needed to be on a day (was two hours) then I split it up into 30 min increments.

Any other time I’d have my phone far away from me and the smaller timeframes kept my eyes from gettin fatigued and getting headaches

Use a computer. Set up a desk, use a laptop or a desktop pc, and set your work hours. This is a work computer. Don’t use it for anything else. “Clock in” and do your work at the desk, “clock out” and walk away. Assuming you work remotely, you have to set boundaries. Have your alotted work time, and the rest of your time don’t do any smm.

That’s rough. Like being a dry alcoholic and working as a bartender.

Strictly stick to your content calendar, limit your time on tik tok, use business manager (or som other 3rd party service) to be able to reply to comments instead of the actual app and set a limit on how much time you spend engaging in comments otherwise

    > Experts’ recommendations are less exciting than a trip to French Polynesia, though they’re certainly less expensive: Turn off your notifications. Set aside an hour of single-tasking time. Put physical distance between yourself and your phone when you don’t need it. And understand that although technology companies design their devices to be on your mind all the time, you don’t need to follow suit.
