How do I answer the interview question “what is your experience with influencer marketing?”
So I have been doing social media management for non-profits for about three years now. I have no experience at all with influencer marketing, as that doesn’t really apply to the fields I have been in ( building affordable housing, supporting legal non-profits, and before that I worked for a carpet cleaning equipment manufacturer.)
How do I answer the question “what is your experience with influencer marketing?”
Anyone else been in the same boat and come up with a good answer for that? Right now I guess I am leaning towards just explaining that there are no “influencers” within the fields I have worked so it hasn’t come up… but when I imagine giving that answer in my head it doesn’t sound great.

You’re probably thinking of influencers like “Kylie Jenner” but influencers can also refer to people within your industry that carry influence.
Did you ever have the opportunity to seek industry heads or people within your field that carried a lot of weight to help promote an initiative or project (like an event)? Did you ever invite donors or experts to a networking event or round table. Anything like that?
That’s how you can relate your experience to influencers marketing (through purposeful outreach to industry experts or people of “influence”) and then discuss what you did.

I think honesty is the best path forward.
But what you can add is any experience that uses the same skills: communication, managing expectations, project management.

Lying gets you nowhere. If you don’t believe you have any experience with influencer marketing I think it would be better to say “I don’t have any past experience within influencer marketing but have been interested in getting some hands-on experience with it to learn.”

There are thousands of influencers that work in the “building affordable housing” space…the tiny house space…the van living space…unless I’ve misunderstood, these all intersect with what you do…I would not answer with “there are no influencers in my field” because you’re going to come off as not knowing what you’re talking about, and not having done the research, because that’s how this post reads.
You can say you’re familiar with influencer marketing, identifying them, etc, but haven’t had to execute any projects involving influencers in your previous roles…
