  • How difficult is it to gain a following on social media?

Posted by ashleytaylor888 on November 13, 2022 at 6:15 pm

I’ve been posting on Youtube for a few months now and have gained 300 subscribers. I feel that my videos are good but could be better.

Does anyone have any tips for gaining momentum on social media and in particular, Youtube?

Till you get huge subscribers you need to promote your YT channel using other social media like Twitter, Telegram, Facebook, etc etc. If not it will be slow unless there is one video that goes viral for some reason which is very rare and depends on your niche.

Hey man, social media strategist/marketer here. I’ve worked with influencers in the Youtube/Instagram space, people like Vincent Chan, Daniel Iles, Erika Kullberg and a few others. Before working together they were all under 100K, and now they are all close to a million in less than 18 months. The point I am trying to drive is that it is possible to make a living out of this, but you gotta have a solid strategy, develop messages tailored to 3-4 target audiences and be consistent with the quality and the content production. Right now short video content is killing it on Insta and #shorts, if you’re consistent you can really increase you can build a solid foundation. Right now the market is flooded, you gotta do amazing out of the box content. Or at consistent above average content. Develop some content pillars and hashtag libraries for each on the insta side, try to combine some hashtags for discovery, traction and reach. If you need more pointers or any clarifications feel free to shoot me a DM 🙂

It’s very difficult. You have to really push through stretches where you feel minimal reward for a lot of effort.

Thumbnails/Titles. These are how you grab people. Tell a story with your thumbnails (with minimal text) and focus on big images/personalities. Click-through-rate is important here. Know what people are clicking.

Focus. Make sure you can explain your channel in one sentence and explain what value you’re bringing to viewers. You’re competing against sooo many channels. You need to target a specific audience.

Trends. You can see quick growth by being early to trends in your field. Or my mixing your field with pop culture trends. Because YouTube videos can take so long to make, that can require more effort. So look at ways to quicken your workflow.

Learning/Growing. At the end of the day, content is king. Work on being comfortable in front of the camera, improving editing and audio quality, making clips for shorts (and potentially putting them on IG and TT).

Get to the Point. Grab the attention of your audience quick. No filler up front.

The type of content you produce also determines how fast you grow your followers. Many travel vloggers start off by going to the Philippines or India because those countries have a huge number of social media users and YouTube is available to them via their mobile phone service packages without additional data charges, which leads to high consumption and a devoted community. The travel vloggers boast about these countries on their videos and the locals love that and begin to share widely and that leads to a surge of new followers. But, if you don’t produce travel content, then this strategy won’t be of much use to you.

I can only speak for IG but KNOW your niche. See what popular accounts are doing, most of the time they are just following trends. Hell, you don’t even need to post everyday. I posted 2-3 times per week when I was active and I grew 40K+ followers thanks to Reels. I stopped being active couple of months ago but if I kept the momentum, I think would have reached 75K+.

I have a large following and make my living off of Instagram. A large part of my early success was luck, followed by a sustained (years) period of being good.

You need a little bit of both.

    Best of luck

I have grown 3 Business & 6 Brands through organic social media growth

    My 3 Tips:

? Be CLEAR in your message – if people are confused about what you are about, they won’t follow

? Post 10 – 12 posts with industry-related hashtags, to ‘train the algorithm’ what you are about. This will push you into other people’s explore pages & FYP

? Build A Brand! BUILD IT, BE IT.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers to your success!
