GuestApril 22, 2020 at 2:54 pmI was doing freelance videography, and clients would always ask me if I could help with their website or if I knew what was going on with their FB pixels, etc. – it behooved me to start learning about it all, then I found myself working at a small agency where the adwords accounts were in dire need of management, since my predecessor sucked & the CEO had too much on his plate to give them the attention they needed.
After that, it’s been a whirlwind of a few poachings and well-timed job hops – haven’t looked back since.

GuestApril 22, 2020 at 4:10 pmI applied for a digital marketing job. They wanted me to be a developer instead. It was fun but it wasn’t my calling. Saw an opening for a PPC job and now I’m living the dream.

GuestApril 22, 2020 at 4:39 pmIt was back in 2015… I started how I now recommend most folks get a start in PPC – By convincing a non-profit to let you get them / manage their Google grant account. Free money for them, free learning for me = win win across the board! I was still in college at the time, so this was phenomenal experience. I actually helped them get the grant, and then managed it with a small team of marketing coordinators from their team. From there I laid my foundation to start freelancing / enter the agency space.
I was working with them for free back then, but they’ve been a paying client of many for almost 2 years now! I know the Google grant program has changed over the years and it’s a bit harder to get in. But if you can find a non-profit with a legacy grant, offer some services for free!
tl;dr – Secured and managed a Google Grant budget for a large non-profit in college

GuestApril 23, 2020 at 10:52 amI started playing around with Google Ads and FB Ads in my daytime gig (consumer medial devices at the time) back in 2012.
It was a big eye-opener that led me to open my own full-time PPC agency Jan 1st, 2013.
Prior to that, I was doing the odd freelance SEO project off/on since 2002. Boy did PPC give my business a kick in the pants!
