  How can i show post uodate date in SERP

  I am using Newspaper theme on my wordpress website. I upadate my post after few months. But the SERP are showing the dates on which article was published.
  I have searched through internet but didnt found any solution yet. Can anyone help me with that?
  I have already checked custom code to be added in functions.php file of my theme.
  Any help would be appreciated.

  It seems to be a bit arbitrary which results Google publishes a date on, imho
