  • How can I expand my SEO efforts on a global scale?

Posted by River_dragon_1295 on September 13, 2024 at 3:05 pm

Hi there, SEO newbie here! I run a small side business and my SEO efforts have been somewhat decent in the US (where I’m based). But through my research, I’ve found that a lot of the keywords I want to target also have high search results internationally and I’ve even gotten a few sales over in Canada. But of course I want to expand that reach.

So my question is, how do I go about reaching those internationally when it comes to SEO? Any advice would be super helpful!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Sometimes it can be just as basic as adding “UK” to the content or creating content for specific countries….

See what pages you get clicks from other countries and augment those

Increaee traffic and backlinks from those countries…

Expanding your SEO efforts globally is a solid move, especially if you’re already seeing some traction outside the US. Here are a few tips that might help:

    1. **Optimize for Local Search Engines**: Remember, not every country uses Google as its primary search engine. Consider optimizing for local search engines in the regions you’re targeting (like Yandex for Russia or Baidu for China).
    2. **Use hreflang Tags**: This is super important for targeting different languages and regions. It helps search engines understand which version of your site to show in which country, which can boost your visibility in those markets.
    3. **Create Localized Content**: Don’t just translate your existing content – adapt it to match local culture, language nuances, and trends. This could mean tweaking your product descriptions, blogs, and even metadata to appeal more to your international audience.
    4. **Check Your Keywords for International Ranking**: I started using this tool called SERPtag to track where my keywords rank internationally. It’s been a game-changer for seeing which markets I’m already doing well in and where I need to put in more effort. Just a thought if you want to see where your keywords stand across different regions!
    5. **Build International Backlinks**: Try getting backlinks from local websites in the regions you’re targeting. This adds credibility and shows search engines that your site is relevant in those specific areas.

Hope this helps, and good luck with expanding your reach

Just check a tool like Ahrefs – it will show traffic and clicks and shit from other regions besides US. Add geographically specific keywords and content, etc. Build links from other countries. Offer multiple languages and serve different landers based on geo, etc.

Completely agree with u/OkAstronomer655 especially item #5, which is also the hardest, get those big international backlinks in, this is number one factor which will move the needle. This of course should be backed up by content that supports those international markets. One thing that worked well for my client in logistics was to connect with journalists and KOLs on twitter. Once we made his profile into that of a super expert in his field (logistics in asia) they wanted to quote him for articles. We got him on bloomberg. So basically an international PR push is essential
