  • Honest question: is toxicity (such as death threats) in social media mainly created by bots or people?

Seeing so many statements about people (red bull today, but also doctors in the Netherlands are being threatened was the news today) receiving death threats on social media made me wonder: who are all these people doing this? Is the assumption of an army of keyboard warriors true? It seems to me there is much more serious toxicity than how i experience society. I can also imagine that this could be a destabilising tool for a malicious entity, such as let’s say Russia. Has anyone any insight to share?

People, because they don’t understand that saying it on social media is just as bad as saying it in person (keyboard warrior syndrome). However with the Police in the UK for example unable or unwilling to ask the social media companies for tracing or id’s the perpetrators tend to get away with it even though there is written evidence of the act.
