Having a problem with conversion tracking where the conversions are too high.

Posted by TheWonderingZall on February 20, 2023 at 3:42 pm

I have a conversion that’s tracking leads (signup form) using a Google tag manager, but the conversion count is really high on google ads and my google analytics tracks the thank you page of the website which is I know is accurate and I don’t know how to fix this.

Does anybody here might have some knowledge on what I can do?

Open GTM in preview mode and go through the conversion process. Make sure it’s only firing on the thank you page (or the form submission event). If it’s firing anywhere else, then you need to adjust your triggers.

Make sure your conversion setting in Google Ads is One, not “every”. Otherwise someone refreshing the thank you page might fire the conversion tag again.

It’s usually a tag or conversion set-up issue and the above typically solves it.

If you’re looking to track things on the actual form submission rather than Thank You arrival via GTM, [this tutorial is the best](https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/google-tag-manager-form-tracking/) in my opinion.

You could also just import your analytics goals
