recently i was doing a competitor's analysis and i was surprised that one of my competitors has a backlink from apple…
it's not a direct backlink rather it's in his backlink network.
any explanations?
and any idea on how?

Depends. Apple has a vast amount of web assets – like support forums, articles, blogs, marketplaces, help documents
And there are people in organizations who place links for friends, like Ben Franklin.
Happens on Wikipedia a crazy amount
