  • Has anyone stopped calling Twitter “Twitter” and referring to it as “X” now?

Posted by Kris_Luc on July 31, 2023 at 3:05 pm

I’’ve noticed that some people have started referring to Twitter as “X” instead of its original name. I’m curious if this is a common trend or just something I’ve come across. How do you say it if you want to post something on X or you want someone to follow you on X? Let me know your thoughts!

Nah, I’ll still call it Twitter. Honestly, I think eventually it will regain the name and just be under an X “umbrella,” kind of like Alphabet and Google. The name just has too much sticking power.

This is probably the worst rebrand I’ve ever seen. They have made so many rookie mistakes…. As if they had no plan whatsoever. I’m amazed at the fact in this day age a company this big can mess up such an important business operation

To answer the question, I don’t think I’ll start calling it X but who knows..

I still call Meta “Facebook.” It might take a few Super Bowls for me to change that.

As for the bluebird transitioning into the letter “X,” it’s going to take some serious marketing efforts if they want people to forget about Twitter and remember the “X.”

X has barely transitioned to calling itself x. I’m pretty sure their emails still refer to “new tweets”.

It’s an awful, amateurish, sloppy rebrand that won’t stick in my opinion.

Personally, I’m not and haven’t heard anyone else doing it either.

One it doesn’t roll off the tongue. “Are we all scheduled for X?”

Two People on tiktok are saying they weren’t able secure the name in some countries (idk if thats true) but if so… it wouldn’t surprise me if it changes to something else.

Three I’m not doing it out of spite because I think this entire saga is stupid.

Hey, I’ve noticed that too but honestly, old habits die hard. I still find myself referring to it as Twitter most of the time. I guess it might take a while for the rebrand to fully sink in.

Remember when GAP had a “rebrand” only to scrap the idea, effectively reinforcing their brand identity? Twitter may be doing the same here.

No and I think everyone should continue to call it twitter and tweets. Even the media outlets. Everyone agrees the change is stupid. If everyone keeps calling it twitter wtf is Elon going to do abt it?

I just hate the name ‘X’. It doesn’t sound like a proper social media platform.

Twitter is dead and X feels like an unnecessary insult to what was once a decent platform. I fucking hate him.

It still has “Search Twitter” up in the top right had field. I can’t see it ever catching on, it’s just such a bad idea.

Even when you consider substituting X into how Twitter is spoken about, people are just going to either sound like they are replacing something with a place holder or it’s some Voldemort “He Who Shall Not Be Named” nonsense.

I give it to the end of the year before he gives up on it entirely.

And also, if I was the guy who lived across the road from their offices with the ridiculously bright sign, I’d be firing a BB gun at it until it was broken!

X is a horrible name. It doesn’t roll off the tongue. What are people going to call tweets? X’s? There’s already a connotation there, and it isn’t a good one.
