Google Shopping not recording all conversions

Posted by seohelper on May 11, 2020 at 12:09 pm

So we use Shopify for our e-commerce site. We have always run Google ads at a great ROAS. I have had utms set up on these ads so I can tell which customers have come from Google ads from Shopify. I counted at least 10 customers coming from Google ads yesterday with the utm as their conversion source. However, Google ads has only registered one conversion. What could the problem be?

This seems to be new, as it used to track fine.

If it was only yesterday, there could be a delay in recording conversion. It can take 24 – 48 hours for all sales to get recorded in Google Ads. If you have been using Shopify to track the sales and then compare it with Google Ads, they won’t always match up. The more sales you get over time, the larger the chance they won’t match 100%. Google Ads and Google Analytics would never match 100% either.

If you’re using Google Analytics you need to wait 24-hours for the conversions to sync to Google Ads.

This can be a few other issues too. One thing might be your attribution model. If you’re not using last-click in Google Ads, some of these conversions may not get full attribution or any attribution.

Another issue can be tracking conversions as referrals instead of from the original source in Google Analytics. If you’re seeing a lot of conversions from self-referrals or Paypal referrals you have some issues with cross-domain tracking not working properly.
