Google is testing a new feature to highlight authors in search results. This feature, called “Perspectives,” shows a card-like box that appears below the search result snippet and provides more information about the author of the content.

The “Perspectives” box includes the author’s name, picture, and a short bio describing their expertise and credentials. The box also includes links to the author’s other content, such as their social media profiles and other written articles.

This feature appears to be in testing and is unavailable for all search results. It is unclear when or if Google will roll out this feature to all users. However, if this feature is implemented, it could provide more context and credibility to search results, especially for articles that cover complex topics or controversial issues.

The report also notes that this feature could benefit content creators by increasing their visibility and helping them establish themselves as authoritative voices in their respective fields.

TBH, I never understood the usefulness of this feature, even when Google attempted it a few years ago. It’s one of their crappy “innovations” that they seem hell bent on pushing.

If an author wants to highlight themselves, they can do this at their website. It’s not for google to push their name. Nor is it for Google to turn writers into “influencers”.

The claims of providing credibility and context is BS. No wonder search keeps getting crappier. Google keeps pushing weird experiments rather than being a search engine.
