  • Google Disavow Tool: “Domain properties are not supported at this time.”

I attempted to use Google’s disavow tool to rid my site of about 1500+ crap links.

However, Google informs me that “Domain properties are not supported at this time.”

So, I read a suggestion online to just add the same site’s URL into the “add a property” box on the diavow page.

I do so, and it reads my disavow text file and accepts it.

However then I have this new GSC property–as above, the same URL as my other “domain property”, based on the same site’s URL.

And there’s virtually no data for it, certainly that GSC page concerning backlinks is empty.

So, the big question is did I successfully disavow those links? If I didn’t is there another way in?

And, yes, I’ve read Google presently does a good job of ignoring crap links, but that is a lot of bad links I think for a site of our size.

Can you give a bit more context? Where did the crap links come from? SEO-hack? Which disavow link are you using? There is a specific formula you need to enter/upload to get it to work.

The Disavow tool doesn’t do anything anyway. This is an unpopular topic but I’m going to share my experience, nevertheless.

12 years ago I had a niche site that was ranking well. But as was the trend 12 years ago, there were tons of “article sites” that copied my content, spun it, and then linked to my site as a reference. Basically, I got a spammy links penalty. I went from position 2 to position bottom.

So I found as many spammy links as I could and disavowed them.

I waited 6 months and nothing happened.

I bought a new domain, copied the content over, and within a month was back at the bottom of the first page.

The disavow tool doesn’t do anything other than show Google who the linkfarms are.

edit – let me actually give you some legitimate advice. If you try the disavow tool and it brings a lack of results, the only way I have seen to move forward from a penalty is to start over with a new domain. If you control your backlinks then changing them over will be no problem. You can copy all the old content, too.

Do not redirect the old domain to the new domain.

If your backlinks came from random places who happened to find you, then it might be harder to change them over. If they are from link outreach and guest posting, it might be harder to change them over.
