Google may do away with the disavow link tool within Google Search Console in the future. John Mueller, a Senior Search Analyst at Google, on X, “At some point, I’m sure we’ll remove it,” referring to the disavow link tool.

What Google said. John Mueller responded to questions about the disavow tool, suggesting again that most sites do not need to use the feature. Here are those posts:

We know from the Google leaks that the Disavow Tool was all a load of BS anyway. Read: It didn’t do sh*t. It was just Google’s Data Farming Tool for finding link spammers.

What is the best practice to disavow spam backlinks other than this?

I don’t think the Disavow tool will go away in a while. There are no such announcements from Google so far. But no one knows may be at some point they will bring something more useful than the current one and make it obsolete.

Yoo, weblinkr, what’s up? So, after going through piles and piles of data, I’ve finally realized that you’ve been right all along 😉

My view is that the best thing for the website owners would be Google introducing a feature that makes it possible to only accept the links they want to count against their backlink profile, where you could proactively opt in to use the tool, and then select the links you want to count (if the link wasn’t selected it won’t count towards your backlink profile at all).

This could be an advanced on/off feature for opted-in users who want to have more control what links count towards their backlink profile. What do y’all think? Would an advanced feature to select which links count towards your profile be an option in the future?

This is excellent news! Quick Q though. If you have a bunch of spammy legacy links from years ago that were paid for or implemented by a black hat agency before your time,. Without the disavow tool, how would companies deal with these?

Anything that comes out of JM’s mouth = Lie. Like f*** off can we stop quoting him / his cronies in anything? Guy is put in place to make SEOs look the way they want people to look at whilst everything is happening the opposite direction.

John Mueller’s suggestion that most sites may not need it suggests evolving strategies in Google’s approach to SEO.

Thanks for this update and so much information which I am not aware of. I thought that disavowing links is helping the sites to perform better on backlinks standpoint but I suppose that’s not true… Am I right, OP

Google has hinted that the disavow link tool within Google Search Console might be phased out eventually. John Mueller, a Senior Search Analyst at Google, mentioned in an interview that “At some point, I’m sure we’ll remove it,” when referring to the tool. He emphasized that most websites don’t typically require the use of this feature.

So what will we do when we get manual penalty because of unnatural backlinks? Nothing and hope?
