Google Ads – tracking affiliate links

Posted by Middle_Radish_137 on March 3, 2023 at 3:09 pm

    Hi everyone,

I’ve never done any PPC advertising in my career, but recently I’ve started using Google Ads for a project of mine.
I have a coupon/deals website that I advertise and I want to track how many people click on my ad and then click on a certain coupon (and then leave my website and go to a merchant’s website). I watched a lot of tutorials but most of them focus on tracking something on your website like a “thank-you” page. In my case, as soon as someone clicks on a coupon they get redirected to another website, so how can I track this?

I’d be really grateful for any insights and help 🙂

Yes, you want to track when a certain page is reached, typically the thank you page after a purchase or a download page after information has been submitted. This means of course you need to have access to that page. Since this happens on an affiliate site, you don’t have access and so you can’t track the conversion.

Web design is not really my thing but I believe you can track some other ways. You could have the button redirect to a page where you’d put the tracking code and that page immediately redirect to the affiliate site. Of course, that would track only when someone clicks the button, it doesn’t track any sale.

I believe you can achieve the same with code on your site. Ask a web developer how to do this. Again, this would not track actual sales, simply that they went to the affiliate.
