Google Ad Impressions and Clicks went to zero

Posted by marchie90 on September 9, 2024 at 10:29 am

A couple of weeks ago a Google rep called me like they usually do to see if they can improve my campaign. I don't really have much faith in the customer service based on previous experience but I decided to give it another shot.

I only get about 4 or so conversions a month (form submits) on about £600 so I told him this and he said he would help and told me to change some settings. One of the settings was enabling "Target Cost Per Action". I was sceptical about this because I heard that you need sufficient conversion data to use this and at 4 conversions a month I was sure I didn't have enough for use this.

I enabled it anyway and over the next few weeks I didn't notice any improvement, in fact my clicks per day reduced significantly. Two days ago I decided to take Target Cost Per Action off and unticked the box. When I did this over the next day my impressions and clicks dropped to zero, yesterday I got zero everything and today I have had 2 impressions. My keywords are on broad and nothing else to my knowledge has changed.

Why might this have happened? Is it just a matter of waiting a few days for it to reconfigure? Is there anything I can do it fix it?

    Thanks

I’ll do my best to help you if you can explain what you mean by ‘turned it off’.

I find that if make a significant change, like altering a bidding strategy, performance drops off for a day or two as Google Ads regathers data. Then performance picks up again, so hopefully isn’t anything to worry about.

I had this happen (clicks to zero) about 2-3 times over a few years, caused by changed a google rep told me to make. (I’ve stopped taking their calls).

Maybe check the campaign’s history to double check the changes? Maybe there’s something else that was changed?

Bidding changes are the largest changes to the account that you can make. Especially with an account that gets little conversions, opting in to automated bidding throws it all off. I would suggest you to give it a day or two. If nothing happens, I would go ahead and create a new campaign. I had experienced some campaigns getting “stuck in gear”, especially new campaigns that do not have a lot of data. Also, I would suggest for you to add some micro conversions to the site so you can have a bit more data. 4 conversions a month sounds like very little. Consider Meta to create demand as it sound like there is not enough of it to capture at the moment.
