  • Giveaway feature question: “Comment or tag a friend for additional entries”

Hi everyone – I'm working with a client who will be running a giveaway on Instagram.

Client wants to boost the post but is now saying they heard that if you add on a piece about tagging a friend or incentivizing someone for comments for additional entries within a boosted giveaway, that it's against IG ToS.

    Anyone heard of this?

I hadn’t come across this before, but I wonder if it’s in relation to the idea of illegal lottery’s which I didn’t even know about til recently. This could be something a lot of people are realising now and are wanting to protect themselves from accidently hosting. I’m not too well versed in these so can’t help beyond this unfortunately.

The Meta ToS are quite explicit about how you can run competitions.

In Facebook you cannot ask people to share or tag people in the comments. You can ask them to comment with a hashtag though.

This is because people can have their privacy settings to not be public. If they share and the post isn’t public, it means the competition organiser cannot see it. So they shared it without a valid entry.
