Getting better US rankings for a UK site
A question for the SEO community as I'm trying to get some second opinions..
So currently my .co.uk website gets a decent amount of traffic and ranks well in the UK, but the same keywords that rank well in the UK don't rank well at all in the USA, where there is significantly more search traffic.
I have recently bought the .com domain, partly to protect the brand but also to increase presence in the USA. I will need .com in either case regardless.
Option 1:
UK – .co.uk
USA – .comOption 2:
UK – .com/en-gb/
USA – .com/en-us/ + redirect .co.uk to .com OR .com/en-gb/ + add the appropriate hreflang attributesOption 1 is cleaner, but option 2 means the US site would instantly have good domain authority, and there wouldn't be duplication of effort required with future ePR, linkbuilding efforts and such like. But would .com/en-gb/ hurt UK rankings?
Interested to hear y'all's thoughts.
