  • Feeling burnt out with social media management and copywriting

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and what they do to help deal with burn out.

I work for a company that manages social media pages for local home builders and interior designers. Right now I write posts, schedule, and maintain about 11 Instagram accounts in that niche. Since I write all the content for our clients, it’s become increasingly hard and draining to maintain a sense of creativity. It’s hard to create a unique voice for each individual client when they’re all sharing really similar content. My boss, who recently added a few new clients to my plate, recently asked me to freshen up the copy and I feel frustrated. How many new, fresh, and unique ways can I describe a bathroom? I feel like I’m going crazy.

As social media managers do you write all the content as well? And if you do, how do you deal with creative burn out? Any advice would be appreciated!

I hear you. It is an occupational hazard. What I find helpful is to to get some outside inspiration – attend a conference, do some on-line continuing ed, scroll content from another industry, from another country, anything to get fresh ideas from outside my regular world. Then I can make the translation to my world and it feels fresher to me. Also be sure to take breaks – take a holiday, go spend some time in nature on the weekends, maybe meditation – anything to care for your own mental health so you can be as creative as possible. Good luck -hang in there!

I do the same, handle multiple accounts and supposed to write captions and coordinate with designer or even design myself many times. Now, When you feel creative burnout, try going to instagram pages of other countries.
You will have a complete new taste .

I don’t use personal social media anymore. I use the “sleep” and “do not disturb” functions on my phone. I watch long movies. Read books. Do the puzzle. Get back into comics. Exercise. Cook for friends. Bother my wife.

In short, I firmly ground myself in physical reality and compartmentalize my work and my life.

Are you me? I also run Instagram accounts in the builder/interior design sphere. I have been asked to make my copy “sexier” “funnier” “more creative”. I deeply sympathize with your post. The struggle is real. If you’re not the designer, there’s nothing of value you can add to an image with a caption.

If I’m reposting something, I try to highlight the original post as much as possible. When I’m really burned out, I’ll set a timer for 10 min, write as many captions as possible (without regard to anything in the images). At the end of 10 min, I spend another hour editing everything to make cohesive captions.
