    Hi SEO’s,

A business is starting to create content to match some keywords they’ve identified that should bring some SEO opportunities to their site.

Out of curiosity, I ran 2 of their new pages into Copyscape. 77% of words were identical. This is alarming, but because of their industry, they’re always going to be mentioning industry realted words. Not in a spammy way, but it’s just what they talk about.

The other issue is, there’s a “body” section on most of their pages. The rest of the site contains links to blogs, portfolio items, contact details etc. So by design, there’s also going to be identical words detected.

Is there a rule-of-thumb for what is the upper limit of what Google will tolerate when it comes to duplicate content?

is a 77% score in Copyscape too high?

In my experience though duplicate, user engagement matters, readability, references, structure, author expertise & his online presence always matters. Google connect dots to finalize position of that content piece to its targetted keyword always. As per my knowledge 20 to 30% of duplicate content don’t matters. But unique content always stand out over the partial duplicate
