  • Dr. Approved YMYL content?

    Hey SEO pros,

Part of my site (we’re about to launch) is YMYL content – and we’ve got some medical staff on board (Dr.s) who have agreed to review this content prior to publishing it. Awesome!

How do we present this approved content in a way that google recognizes it as trustworthy? We’re going to put a disclaimer under the H1 saying “Reviewed and Approved by Doctor(Name)” – will this be enough?

Have links to other work the doctors have published/approved, or if they have their own websites/medical practice etc. That’ll help send signals to Google that it’s trustworthy

Look into schema. Establishing people as entities, connected to their website, LinkedIn, socials, etc. That graph will establish authority. It would help to have bio pages too.

Medical sites like Mayo Clinic and Healthline are great sources for YMYL medical content. Be sure to create a profile/author section for the relevant doctors who medically reviewed the articles + their relevant accreditation.

Include in their relevant medical journals or past research papers in their profiles as well.

Check Google’s recommendations from Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines:

*● High E-A-T medical advice should be written or produced by people or organizations with appropriate medical expertise or accreditation. High E-A-T medical advice or information should be written or produced in a professional style and should be edited, reviewed, and updated on a regular basis.*

In my opinion, the key phrase here is: “people or organizations with appropriate medical expertise or accreditation”. It probably makes sense to create comprehensive info for each of your medical expert reviewers that provides confirmed and easily verifiable info about the authority of the expert and his contacts.

*We need to find out what outside, independent sources say about the website. When there is a disagreement between what the website says about itself and what reputable independent sources say about the website, we’ll trust the independent sources.*

*When the website says one thing about itself, but reputable external sources disagree with what the website says, trust the external sources.*

External sources confirming the credentials of your medical experts are probably important.

The algorithm is strict and somewhat unpredictable. Many actual doctor websites don’t even meet the criteria and underperform.

I do not believe just checking the SEO boxes for EAT will be sufficient.

Be sure that the language used is physician grade rather than simplified for consumer queries. Be sure to cite reputable sources.

Google has a data pattern that represents what a normal high quality YMYL site looks like. Deviate too far outside the unknown normal parameters and it won’t perform.

I would focus on brand building, audience and PR, and avoid “link building.”

It would certainly help if any doctors involved in the endeavor promoted it and linked to it however, even if only to their own profile page.
