I have domain that won't be used anymore. It has some links and authority built during previous years. I was wondering, If I do a permanent redirect to a new domain, will authority be lost? Shall I try contacting people having my links and ask them to change to the new domain name?
    thanks

You can 301 redirect your old domain to the new one, and the link juice will pass to the new domain, as long as both domains are in the same niche. If the old domain is in a different genre, it won’t help.

Just redirect the domain. If the backlink profile is really good, and it’s relevant to your new domain, it will benefit your site.

Redirect relevant page to page and others to homepage, or just entire site to homepage.

In a niche, I had a competitor who acquired a really good domain who had an amazing backlinks profile and they redirected everything to a single affiliate article and that article was always ranking number 1. The other articles in the SERP were much better but still that competitor ranked #1 for all keyword variations for that specific article.
