Does running paid ads for a youtube video hurt its organic rankings?

Posted by Sachimarketing on November 23, 2022 at 7:33 pm

I don’t know what the real data is on this. I’ve seen discussions on various Youtube subs that running paid ads for a Youtube video can hurt the organic rankings. But I take what those guys say with a grain of salt since they know little about PPC and parrot alot of bad advice in general.

There are 2 situations I’m looking for insight on:

    * Running paid ads on a video that is already getting organic traffic but not necessarily viral
    * Running paid ads on a video that isn’t getting any traffic

    Hey Sachimarketing,

I hope you are doing well. From what I understand, it would be the opposite. I will explain. 🙂

Engagement (comments, likes, shares, etc) is a critical factor for ranking well organically on YouTube. They are indicators that the viewers care about the video.

Getting more viewers (even if they come from paid media) to engage with the content can help Google see it as valuable content. The opposite can happen too. If the viewers don’t engage with the video will be a bad sign for Google.

Still, everything that I said is not based on an experiment. It’s an assumption based on my experience in PPC, SEO, and SEO for YouTube. I’m looking forward to learning from other people’s experiences.

Wish you the best and I hope I had collaborated with you.

    See ya.
