They work if done for the right reason. What you’re attempting is probably worthless. Their rankings will drop massively upon expiration of their domain, so you’ll just be wasting money and time.

Yes, if you redirect a good domain in the proper way, it does wonders.

Beyond just the homepage, consider addressing any pages that have been indexed or backlinked. Where practical, point them to the most similar new content.

FWIW: Before investing a lot of time and money, be sure to test for copyright issues and blacklists. Sometimes, they’re abandoned for a reason.

Yes it, especially if you are poaching good backlinks and redirecting them to equally as useful on topic articles.

For $20 or whatever a domain costs it’s a good bargain. Would I spend $1000 for it at auction, probably not

Not going to work. Even aged domains are hit or miss these days, let alone expired ones.
Doubt you will find any decent expired domains as the market is dry. Even if you would, better to make them into PBNs than just redirect.

It 100% depends on the link profile of the domain you are redirecting.

I am doing this now. Bought 2 domains in the same city and as similar as niche related as I could. Being a nub, I do not know how to redirect just the popular pages. The 2 experiments I did are still indexed by google and forwarded to one of my sites.

It can’t hurt the site per the links I have their already, just testing. I inspected the site and saw a few 70-90 DA links with traffic and they are still indexed. I am only interested in the backlinks of the profiles of course and would like them to join my stuff

I am not depending on this at all and constantly doing other SEO stuff, social signals, updating sites/structure and linking for best results.
