Never let Google run unlimited. You’ll blow your budget.

Set a cap, even if you think it’s on the higher end. Like $10 for a non niche, non financial business

If you are confident that you have picked the right set of keywords, using phrase or exact match, written good ads, and have negatives added proactively, do not have a cap.

However, if you are not sure of the above or if you are using broad match, a cap can be ideal to start with.

I never set max limits on a new campaign, only after some period if the cpc is unreasonably high and affecting CPA, also double check impression share and auction insights to decide on setting a limit.
For lead gen, I usually run broad match type in a separate campaign and almost always have limits.

Not setting a cap is like giving a toddler unlimited budget at a toy shop.

    give it a budget.
