  • Do Keyword Domain Redirects Help SEO?

Posted by thomthetoymaker on September 12, 2023 at 9:21 pm

Is it still an effective practice to purchase keyword-specific domain names that redirect to a client’s website to drive more traffic / help optimize SEO?
For example, if I’m trying to boost traffic of XYZ furniture company in Seattle (xyzpfurniture.com), would it be effective to buy “seattlefurniture.com” and redirect it to “xyzfurniture.com” ?
    Thanks!

No, you would have to do more than that to drive traffic, you can create content to to direct traffic. But redirecting would result in higher bounce rate

    No. That does absolutely nothing.

Nah, domain names have little to no impact on SEO as far as I know

In 2014 buying AUTHORITATIVE DOMAINS and redirecting them to your website helped.

It’s not necessarily a viable strategy today, although it can still work if done correctly.

Authoritative domains. NOT random domains without any linkjuice.

Don’t think it ever really worked tbh, going way back.

A domain redirect isn’t going to help with SEO, unless it has some authority to pass. However, this method is considered sneaky by many.

That said, an exact match keyword domain has value of its own. I hand-register any good domain for its potential alone. So, if your domain sounds like a great digital real estate, snap it up.
