I manage social media accounts for businesses in the Dental Industry (General Dentists, Orthodontists, and Pediatric Dentists). This is a very niche group. I’m wondering if anyone else in this group works in this industry specifically with social media? And if so, I’d love to hear what you are creating / how you are tracking metrics. Unfortunately, dental has no specific benchmarks as they are looped into Healthcare. This makes it hard to follow an industry benchmark, but rather we must set our own.

I’m not a social media manager, but I’m the creator of a social listening tool (Advite), and some of our clients are dental practices. They are currently using us to monitor local subreddits for people looking for recommendations for a new dentist.

We report earned media value to them; it varies obviously per-thread, but for an example, it’s around 0.1-0.2% of the subreddit’s size per upvote that thread receives.

The earned media value is like a CPM cost; if ~10,000 see their reddit comment, and their CPM to advertise to 1000 people is $50, then the EMV is $500 for that comment.
