Cross-domain conversion tracking is working when it shouldn’t

    Hello,

Recently I’ve faced quite an interesting (for me) situation.

There is **domain A** (with no Google tag) with an iframe form pop-up from **domain B** (with a Google tag). After successful form submission, the user is redirected to another page on domain B.

From what I know about cross-domain tracking, this setup doesn’t have to record any conversions, right? There is no conversion linker, and gclid data isn’t passed from domain A to domain B. But for some reason, conversions are being tracked, though not accurately.

Can someone shed light on this?

The user will be given a Google Ads cookie so cross-site conversion tracking generally works for most users. The Google Ads script on the thank-you page (for example) can identify the user and associate the original GCLID.

But it’s not an ideal set-up as cookies aren’t very reliable any more.

I suggest installing GA4 and including both domains in the single property. Set up your conversions as events through GA4 and then mark those as conversions and sync back in Google Ads.
