    Complete Beginner Question – Is it advised to set up conversion tracking before setting up a search campaign?

    Please forgive me if this is an insanely simple question to answer. I’m just a bit confused because the different Youtube videos I have watched have told me different things.

    Is it better to set up conversion tracking BEFORE setting up the search campaign THEN choose a maximize conversions bidding strategy right away when you’re setting up the search campaign, or is it better to set up a search campaign first, maximize for clicks, THEN add conversion tracking and optimize for conversions only once you have enough data from the campaign.

    I would start with search and maximizing clicks. Once you have the data generated within the account, you can then over to conversion

    It sounds like you have this idea slightly muddled between tracking being in place, and bid strategies. Regardless of the bid strategy type, you should have conversion tracking in place before you launch a new campaign. If you set it on Maximise Clicks, it may be optimising to that, but you’ll still want to see conversions if they occur. You’re also giving the algorithm data for when you are able to switch to Maximise Conversions.

    A lot of people on here advise you to go Maximise Clicks first to get in traffic, then switch to Maximise Conversions when you have enough conversion data. I prefer to launch with Manual CPC first for a more controlled approach, and then switch to Maximise Conversions.

    Doing so can ensure that you’re tracking the right actions on your website, such as a sale or a form submission. Once you have conversion tracking in place, you can choose a bidding strategy based on conversions, such as “Maximize Conversions.”
