  • Client’s TikTok Reach Plummeted After 1.5 Year Inactivity

I have a client that I took over their social media marketing about six months ago. All of their accounts had been dormant for over a year and a half.

Mostly LinkedIn and Instagram up until recently when we beefed up YT Shorts, Reels, and TikTok video content. None of their accounts had any noticeable issues in terms of metrics drop off except for TikTok.

Compared to their previous TikToks, it's mostly the same hashtags, copy length, and video length, with better video production. The account only has 25 followers, but previously they were getting anywhere from 250-1000 views per video vs less than 10 per video now. Was the account shadowbanned for inactivity? What's going on here?

You wouldn’t be shadow banned for lack of activity, but given how the majority of TikTok views comes from non-followers via the FYP algorithm, you need to “warm” the account up and keep pumping out engaging content. Eventually something will click and your reach should improve.

Better video production doesn’t necessarily mean better performance on TT – the algos with push native style content more. Polished branded content stands out negatively.

Peak Point Fitness is running into the same problem. We just can’t figure out what’s important. We have one video with 30 likes, but only got 200 views. Another similar post got 600 views, but only 10 likes. To make things more confusing, we have a video with 6 shares that stuck at 150 views. I guess if we had more attractive females it might perform better?!

Those who are very active are not getting the reach which they are supposed to, so I don’t even see how it is going to be possible for an account that is inactive to still maintain the reach it used to have.

It’s a common problem on TT. Some accounts, including my personal, are not pushed by TT. I’m getting 0-5 views the first 24 hours of posting, which is insane. Then it gets 15-17 views max. While on another account that I manage and mainly share reposted videos, we get more views. Original content is not pushed. Where’s the logic?
