  Canonical URL for Paginated Pages: Main Page or Self-Referencing

  I've always believed the canonical url for paginated pages should point to the main page. However, a coworker suggested using a self-referencing canonical for each individual paginated page. Does that have any sense? Is he right?

  It should point to the main page.
