I have a very specific SEO question for you!

A former site that offered a service very similar to the one my company offers has closed its domain because it was bought by a big player in the market, it is possible to find the Urls but they lead to a non-existent domain. (However they are no longer ranking at all. You have to use the site: function to find them)

The thing is that this site had a good SEO.

I had the idea to go in the wayback machine and grab all the content to copy and paste. That’s something like \~100 articles.

    What do you think?

Can Google see it knowing that they have been deindexed but the site no longer exists?

I’d recommend to copy content, wait for Google to “forget it” (till site: won’t show anything) and paste to your site. I’m sure it won’t hurt your rankings.

I’m not a legal expert, but I believe there is some interesting copyright law around who actually owns the content of an expired domain, as I think the text remains the IP of whoever originally published it, and not whoever happens to now own the domain.

As I said, no expert—and I may be wrong—but would love if someone who knows more about how this works could chime in, as it’s an interesting topic.

That ‘big player’ you mentioned still owns the copyrights. I’d expect trouble and also not much success.

    Yeah

I think to copy the content and wait some time before posting.

My advice would be to take the content and run it through quillbot. com to make it 100% plagiarism free and publish it.

Whoever bought the company now owns the content of their web site. They may or may not care. But if you copy it, it would technically be a copyright infringement.

That is not your content and that is stealing.
